Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how AdGuard Home for iOS (the “App”) handles information when you use it. The App is an unofficial, third-party client for self-hosted AdGuard Home servers. It is developed by JIE MEI and is not made by, affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by AdGuard Software Ltd.
Summary
- The App does not sell your data.
- The App does not use advertising or cross-app tracking.
- The App does not operate a developer-controlled backend that receives your home network data.
- Most data stays on your device or is exchanged only with AdGuard Home servers you configure.
Information Stored on Your Device
When you use the App, the following may be stored locally on your iPhone or iPad:
- Server connection details — hostnames, ports, usernames, and display names for AdGuard Home instances you add.
- Passwords — stored in the iOS Keychain. Passwords remain on your device and are not transmitted to the developer.
- App preferences — such as the active server, session state, onboarding completion, and biometric lock settings, stored in UserDefaults.
- Trusted HTTPS certificate fingerprints — if you approve a self-signed certificate, the fingerprint is saved in the Keychain on your device.
Optional Face ID, Touch ID, or Optic ID app lock only protects access to the App’s user interface on your device. Biometric data is processed by iOS and is not collected by the developer.
Information Accessed From Your Servers
The App connects only to AdGuard Home instances that you explicitly add. Over networks you choose, the App may read and display data from your server, including:
- DNS query logs and statistics
- Protection and filtering settings
- Client, DHCP, TLS, and other configuration managed through the AdGuard Home API
This data is retrieved directly from your server. The developer does not receive, store, or process your DNS traffic, query logs, or server configuration on any developer-operated service.
Network Access
The App may use network access to:
- Connect to AdGuard Home servers you configure (HTTP or HTTPS).
- Access servers on your local network when required to reach your home or office AdGuard Home instance.
- Download recommended DNS filter list metadata from AdGuard’s public Hostlists Registry at
https://adguardteam.github.io/HostlistsRegistry/assets/filters.jsonwhen you use features that display or add recommended filter lists.
Server Version Checks
If you use the server version check feature, the App asks your AdGuard Home server for version information. Depending on your server’s configuration and AdGuard Home’s own behavior, your server may contact external update services (such as AdGuard or GitHub release endpoints) to determine whether a newer AdGuard Home version is available. Those requests are made by your server, not by a developer-operated service.
What We Do Not Collect
The App does not include analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, or crash-reporting services operated by the developer. The developer does not collect:
- Your name, email address, or contact information (unless you contact the developer directly)
- Device identifiers for advertising or tracking
- Location data
- Contents of your DNS queries beyond what is shown to you from your own server
Data Sharing
The developer does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Information is shared only in these limited cases:
- With your servers — credentials and API requests needed to manage the AdGuard Home instances you configure.
- With third-party hosts you trigger — for example, when downloading public filter list metadata from GitHub Pages, or when your AdGuard Home server contacts its own update services.
- When required by law — if the developer is legally compelled to disclose information and possesses any such information.
Data Retention and Deletion
Data remains on your device until you delete it. You can remove saved servers, credentials, and trusted certificates by deleting instances in the App or uninstalling the App. Uninstalling removes locally stored preferences; Keychain items associated with the App are removed according to iOS behavior when the App is deleted.
Children’s Privacy
The App is a network administration tool and is not directed at children under 13. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Security
The App uses iOS security features such as the Keychain for credential storage and optional device authentication for app lock. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; you are responsible for securing your AdGuard Home server, network, and device.
Your Rights and Choices
You can:
- Choose which servers to add and when to connect
- Decline to trust untrusted HTTPS certificates
- Enable or disable biometric app lock
- Delete stored instances and uninstall the App at any time
Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will be revised when changes are made. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
